Come on down to the Mac every Thursday evening for songs sung by local musicians – Fiddle Earth joins us for this evening’s Campfire Songs at the Mac. Whether you want to sing or just clap along – everyone is welcome and we promise you will leave with a smile on your face and a tune stuck in your head.  Pack a picnic supper and bring a blanket or grab one of the bistro tables set up on the deck. The museum is also free Thursday starting at 5 p.m. so you can explore the new Exhibit – One Degree of Separation or try your hand at woodworking in the shop!  If weather permits we will also have a campfire to sing around but if not we will bring the fun indoors in our children’s forest.     Check out more about Fiddle Earth here: http://fiddleearth.weebly.com/ Please Note: A camp fire might not be possible if there is a burn ban on in the City of Kingston but the Campfire Songs at the Mac will take place in another area in or around the museum.

Canada Day – The Mac is on the Move

The MacLachlan Woodworking Museum is CLOSED Canada Day but we are taking our staff and our famous woodcuts to the PumpHouse to celebrate with our sister museum and join in on the action down town. Build your own iconic summer chair by hand at our most popular workshop! You will learn how to shape the pieces using hand planes and spoke shaves. You’ll paint your chair and take it home to enjoy your most relaxing summer yet! Pieces will be roughly shaped ahead of time, but you will do all the required assembly and final polishing yourself! A summertime staple. No cottage or campfire is complete without the Adirondack chair. Shape all the pieces required to assemble the chair. Using traditional hand tools and methods you will create and paint a chair of your own from start to finish. This is an all ages workshop (14 yrs and under must be accompanied by an adult).

A behind the scenes look with Curator Tours

New this season we are offering Curator-led tours.  Don’t miss out on this exciting chance to get a glimpse behind the scenes and what it took to put together the exhibition One Degree of Separation.  Curator, Tom Riddolls, takes you through his exhibit elaborating on the connections of objects and how they can connect to everyone and everything around you. This tour is like no other that you will experience and delves deeper into the oddities that are on display.  Join us July 15, 22, 29, August 26 and September 2 for your very own curator-led tour.
