We’re Making an Exhibit

Hello Mac Blog Readers!

I have some exciting news for you¬–the summer students are making an exhibit! Myself, Jude, and Louisa have decided to transform the space in the log house that is currently on the Identity of the Lumberjack into something completely different.

Our inspiration to take on this project came from some observations we have made during our time here thus far. We have noticed that visitors often come in to the museum because they themselves are woodworkers and often times they have a particular interest in furniture making. Lumberjack Display We have also noticed a strong curiosity about the design process and use of tools exists among many of our visitors. It is for these reasons and more that we decided make our exhibit a furniture study which will focus on a single artifact and how it is constructed.

We went through the vault and found a piece of furniture from our own collection that we thought would be perfect. As of right now, our plan is to highlight the manufacturing process and the tools used to make it. We are still in the very early planning stages of the exhibit and are spending much of our time researching the piece we chose.

Our goal is to have the exhibit on display by the end of July. We have lots of work to do between now and then but I am confident that with the support of Tom, our curator, and Meaghan, our museum assistant, we will be able to create an engaging exhibit with a strong narrative.

I won’t give too much more away just yet, but check back here frequently because I’ll be posting constant updates on the progress of planning and executing our very own exhibit from start to finish!
